Shortening a Link

When you shorten a link on kll.li, we store the target address, the generated short link and the time of creation without any time limit, so that the short link keeps working permanently. The legal basis is the provision of the service you requested (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). You can request deletion of your short link at any time by email to li@kll.li.

In addition, we store your IP address when a short link is created, in order to trace and prevent abuse of the service (e.g. for spam or phishing links). The legal basis is our legitimate interest in protecting the service and third parties (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The IP address is automatically deleted six months after the short link was created, or at the latest when the short link itself is deleted; in the event of a specific suspicion of abuse, it may be retained until the incident has been resolved.

Using the Paste Service p.kll.li

When you upload a text via p.kll.li, it is encrypted client-side (in your browser) and cannot be read by us. The encryption key is part of the link and is never transmitted to our server. You choose the retention period yourself – the default is one hour; after expiry, the content is deleted automatically. The legal basis is the provision of the service you requested (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

Contact by Email

If you contact us by email, the exchanged messages and the data you provide are stored for the purpose of handling your inquiry (and possible follow-up questions) for up to six months after the conversation has concluded, unless statutory retention obligations require longer storage. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering inquiries (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) or Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where the inquiry relates to a contract. We do not pass this data on without your consent.

Server Logs

The web server we use automatically stores information about each access for security purposes (e.g. detection and mitigation of attacks, error analysis). The legal basis is our legitimate interest in the security and stability of our systems (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Log files are automatically deleted after 10 days, unless a specific security incident requires longer retention.
The collected information comprises:

  • IP address (anonymized)
  • User-agent header (browser, version, operating system)
  • Address and name of the requested page/file
